At a dinner party over the weekend, my friend's father asked, "What ARE the global issues in learning?" He, as a retired physicist and entrepreneur, tried to answer his own question. "Is it about business practices, capitalism, geography, language, communication, technology?" Well, yes - exactly and so much more.
This blog was created for an assignment for a summer class called Global Issues In Learning. I hope to continue this blog and let it be a place for me to explore and think about these issues and more. Who knows where it all may lead

Hi Kathleen,
I owe you a response. I liked your dinner party discussion. I get the same reaction from people so.."What, you're studying the world and education..that's kind of broad" or this one amazingly from a fellow teacher, "Wow, that's really out there". But the most amazing comment to me is "How are you ever going to use any of that stuff in your classroom?" The truth is, as I approach a new school year, the influence of this program has already made me look at how much more I can add to my curriculum to address multicultural needs. This is not just because I think it is a good idea, but because I believe, that it should be an integral part of our curriculum to promote tolerance, understanding and critical thinking. My hope is that through my example, primitive though it may be, other teachers may begin to believe that including the bigger world into our instruction is not "really out there" but thatwe are all "in here".
